Ah the desert, its to hot for any kind of bugs to survive right? I wish that was true, but during the summer months we get hit hard with mosquitoes, horseflies, fleas and ticks. They all seems to hang out by the water where we like to hike, even in the early mornings and evening the mosquitoes come out to bug us! We of course have a abundance of sun and tall grass and fox tails, so when Hurtta ask if we could do some testing and review their new Sun and Bug Blocker I was more then eager to test it out!
Lucky with Goose he likes wearing stuff so after a few treats he was so happy to run around in the tall grass! Hurtta’s Sun & Bug Blocker is light weight and was easy to fit into my backpack. It also dries quickly, Goose was in the water a bit before I put the sun and bug blocker on him so he got the material a bit wet but it dried quickly.

Overall
Sense we are getting so hot here in the desert with highs in the 100’s I have tested the suit in the mornings but the highs are still in the 80’s and so far I haven’t seen any fatigue. I also saw the bug blocker in action when I was down by the river the flies were all over the place and kept landing on me and hovering around me and my pack. Goose was wearing his sun & bug blocker and I looked at him standing in the sun with a fly not even fly around him! I saw a few try and land on him and they flew away. I think the UPF+40 is a great idea too not only will it keep his fur looking great but I could see how this would be beneficial to dogs with short hair that may need protection from the sun and its harmful rays. Also black dogs I could see the sun and bug blocker helping dark dogs not fatigue in in the sun so easily. Its such a cleaver idea and is a conversation starter for sure! My husband joked and said he looked like a ghost buster in his tan suit, I think it makes him look like special forces. It did take a bit to get it on and off of him, but once I learned how to put it on it was easy from then on out. I mean its not everyday I put Goose in a full body suit. Hurtta makes amazing dog gear and I am very impressed by the materials used on this product.

I bet a lot of dogs would really appreciate having one of these!
yes for sure! I like it too cause I didn’t have to pick ticks or fox tails out of his fur!
Sounds very interesting!
Interesting product! I think I’d be worried my dogs would overheat but it doesn’t sound like you had that problem? It would be nice to find a way to help discourage ticks from finding my dogs. My puppy especially loves to play in the long grass, but I’ve already had to pick a few ticks off him this Spring.
I need this for Pierre. He gets stickers caught in his fur and loves to traipse through tall grasses. This would come in handy to prevent those pesky mosquitoes and protect against the sun after a grooming.
It will help with after hike grooming time and not spending countless hours picking out fox tails or ticks.
I’ve never heard of this before. It sounds great for protection for sure!
A neat product for sure. Love that it fits into that little bag! Have fun on your adventures, Goose!
Interesting and as Layla goes to the beach its something I should look into
I have never heard of this before! It looks interesting and worth a try! I think it would help block the sun off of my black dogs especially. During the heat of the summer, I can literally feel the heat coming off of their fur.
Yes I think black dogs would benefit a lot from this as they seem to attract and hold heat with there dark fur.
This is pretty cool, I’ve never seen anything like it! I was wondering if it might be too hot for the dog to wear, but it sounds like it’s pretty lightweight.
I was worried about that too sense we live in the desert, but its extremely light weight but also very tough.
I feel like this would be especially beneficial for dogs that have to get shaved down due to a matted coat to help protect their skin!
Very true! Or even the hairless dog breeds that need sun screen and lotions to protect there skin.
What a great idea. My first thought was that the dogs would get too hot in the suit, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. How wonderful it keeps the bugs away. Do they make one for humans?
Yes that was my first concern too was will he get to hot? But thankfully that hasn’t been the case, and I’d love to have clothes that repelled mosquitoes too!
We have bad foxtails here and more ticks! I’ve just been giving him a through brushing but this looks easier!
This would probably help so much! I know all about fox tails its like a hour long session going threw his fur making sure I got them all.
I wonder how this would work on double coated breeds. I read that you said it breaths well. It would be nice for keeping burs out of the dogs when we go hiking!
I’m Sure it would help, Goose has pretty long and thick fur and things always get stuck. It would be great for camping trips or hiking.
Great post! I had never heard of this before and I’d like to give it a try since there are so many ticks where we bring the dogs for walks!
I’m really loving the Hurtta products! It’s great that this one does double duty
