Hurtta – Life Savior 14

Our favorite sport to do on the water is SUP and I love bringing Goose along with me but, I have been really wanting to bring Dante but I couldn’t find a pfd in pet stores that was big enough for him. I had the opportunity to work with Hurtta and test and review their Life Savior vest.

  • extremely light

  • a sturdy handle
  • name tag
  • colors include orange, bright pink, and neon green

When I was unboxing the vest I couldn’t believe how light it was, the high quality materials and the sturdy handle were very desirable features I was excited to try out. The Life Savior, a new generation streamlined life jacket for dogs from Hurtta. The Life Savior is ideal for swimming, water rescue, rehabilitation, boating and hunting. The special design of the floats make the vest very light and ensure a comfortable fit.  The light design of the vest ensure free movement for your dog in water and on land.

Testing the Life Savior

We headed out to Saguaro lake last Sunday to do some paddle boarding with our friends and their pups. I was so excited to bring Dante so I could test out the Life Savior vest from Hurtta, and for him to SUP for the first time. The vest for Dante’s size said from 40 lbs – 80 lbs, Goose is 43 lbs but it was a little to big for him so I suggest if your looking in to a vest make sure you look a the measurements closely even if the weight is right. Dante weighs 75 lbs so he is 5lbs away from the max weight, I was hoping that it would still keep him afloat. All my questions were answered when Dante stepped off the board more then a few times trying to learn his balance and falling in, one time he fell and took me with him. I had to swim around a bit to catch my hat and board, all the while Dante swam right along with me. He did start to get tired and I saw him not paddling as much but he didn’t panic or sink cause he had his vest on and he felt safe. Once I got myself back on the board I was able to easily lift him (well as easy as one can lift a 75 lb dog) out of the water back on to the paddle board. The bright color vest made it easy for any boaters to spot him when we were in or on the water. The Velcro also worked great and didn’t move or come undone once it got wet. The adjustable straps made it easy to adjust to Dante’s deep chest and narrow waist. When Swimming Dante had plenty of freedom to move and the life vest was not restricting in any way. There was also a place inside the vest to put your name or phone number. Even when the vest was wet it didn’t take on any water and still remained very light weight. Overall, I was very impressed with the Life Savior from Hurtta, its one of the nicer doggy PFD’s it’s miles above the many cheap floating devices out there for dogs, if your wanting a LIFE jacket that you can trust Hurtta makes it.

With Lake Texoma not to far away and summer boat outings on the rise, this sounds like a great safety feature to provide for vacationing pets with access to the water. Thanks for the review, I wasn’t familiar with this product.

I understand the difficulty of finding products that fit properly. Miss Edie, although she is small, she is not a standard size. Being a pug she has a larger chest and neck making traditionally sizing and fit difficult. I’m happy that you were able to find a product that not only fit, but works well for your dogs so you can both safely enjoy the water.

I love the idea of the Life Savior which would make me feel safer having Layla on a boat. I also checked out their site and loved the cooling harness which would be perfect for Layla when we out in the summer.

Thanks for a great review! From time to time I have clients who ask my about life jackets for their dogs, and now I’ll know which brand to refer for them! These really sound great, and I agree that Hurtta makes wonderful dog products!

Having a life vest that you like is so important. We just found one for my cat Sophie, and it was so much fun to take her out for canoeing adventures in it. Hope Dante enjoys his water sport adventures with his new Hurtta life savior!

Nice review. My thought was (in spite of the great pictures) Did it work? Was he a happy dog feeling safe in the water! Did he flaot??!! I’d say you get what you pay for and this looks the tops with a happy dog and a reassured owner knowing the jacket worked!

If my dogs and I were out on the water much, I would feel better if they had life vests on. This looks like a really good quality life vest.

I plan to try SUP this summer now my knee is slightly better. Not sure Kilo will enjoy it as not a water fan. Looks like a really good safe life-jacket. He will definitely use one too if he is near water.

Sounds like a great lifesaver vest! I’ve not taken my dogs swimming before so they do not have vests. If we ever go I will have to look into this one!
