Its getting scorching hot here in the Arizona desert, playtime is limited to early mornings and late evening time play sessions. But even with playing later in the evening its still sweltering hot, and dogs are vastly different physiology than people one key feature fur. Dogs can’t sweat like us, dogs do sweat through their paw pads, but it’s by panting that dogs circulate the necessary air through their bodies to cool down. If you’re near a body of water (like a river, lake, or beach), your dog can also regain their “cool” by jumping in. But sometimes we go to the park or to a place were there is no water source for your dog to jump in and cool down. That is when the Hurtta cooling harness comes into the picture and can help lower the dog’s body temperature. The cooling harness works by evaporating from the wet harness and the detachable water pocket ensure a fast cooling effect. The waterproof pocket, to be filled with cold water, is located in the chest area of the harness for a powerful cooling effect ( I even threw a few ice cubes in it to help keep the water cooler longer.)
Cooling Harness Features
- helps lower the dog’s body temperature
- adjustable collar and chest strap
- O-ring at the back for a leash
- comes with a separate cooling water pocket
I really did see a difference in Goose staying cooler, and the added water/ice pouch was a nice feature for adding constant cooling even if the harness starts to dry out. That fact that it is a harness and a cooling vest is to be desired, the all in one is a great dual purpose dog gear. It worked great for early morning walks or evening walks, I just sprayed the harness down with the hose and fully saturated it and put the water and ice in the pocket and we were off for our walk.
